When did you first set up your business and what motivated you to do so?

TH Training Solutions was born in 2014, so we’re 4 years old now! After working for the same organisation for 17 years, I had reached my peak and gathered all the qualifications, skills and experience to go it alone. It can get mundane doing the same thing day in day out and I craved the variety and flexibility of being my own boss.

What are the main products/services your company offers?

We provide in-house, face to face training courses to businesses in four main categories: Health and Social Care, First Aid, Fire Safety and Food Safety. We help business owners and managers to meet legislation and compliance and take any stress and confusion around training away. Our courses are engaging and effective and give our learners confidence to perform their roles.

Who is your key target audience?

Our focus is business to business clients. We carry out training for small local businesses to large multi-site organisations across the UK. For our Health and Social Care courses, our clients are service providers such as care homes, supported living services, nursing homes, residential homes, mental health services. For our First Aid, Fire Safety and Food Safety courses our clients include shops, offices and restaurants.

Has it all been plain sailing (please pardon the seaside pun!)?

No, not at all. There’s been difficult times when first setting up and taking such a financial risk to leave my job. Building up a loyal client base takes time and nurturing, so the results of your hard work aren’t always instantly visible. Running your own business can be a juggling act, and there’s no longer the finance department, HR teams and admin assistants around you to help.

What’s it like working with your other half?

It works because we have such different personalities and skills. The most positive thing is the shared vision and that your hard work is for the direct benefit of your own family. The tough part? Being able to switch off, as the urge to ‘talk shop’ can spill over in to your personal life 24/7 if you let it.

What does a ‘normal’ day look like for you?

Me, out delivering training and making calls en-route and perhaps a client meeting at the end of the day. For Rachel, it is based in the office, working on marketing, event planning and accounts – with a networking meeting sprinkled in for business growth!

What type of advertising do you find works best for you?

Word of mouth and recommendation is our best form of advertising. We’re active on all social media platforms for brand awareness and to keep afloat of our local business market. However, our ideal client hangs out on LinkedIn – so that’s where you’ll find us most.

If you were able to go back and give yourself one piece of advice when you were first starting out, what would it be?

Don’t expect everything to go smoothly 100% of the time. There will be bumps in the road and learning along the way.

What is the next step for your business?

Growing our business further and getting a strong foothold in the Wirral and North West training market.

What are your ultimate goals for the business and are they within sight?

To be a national training provider, delivering multiple courses daily to businesses across the UK. For our reputation to come before us, as the training provider with outstanding customer service, integrity and high quality training. Are they within sight? We’re on the right track!
